Job Overview: 

The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for supporting the strategic development and execution of marketing, communication and promotional campaigns. The manager will work with internal and external collaborators to create and execute marketing strategies that drive revenue and reputation goals.

The primary objective of this role is to build on and protect the brand reputation while ensuring all marketing and communications efforts are optimized and aligned to the strategic direction of the institution. The manger will work within the department budget and leverage available digital, print, social, web and media resources to increase awareness and drive revenue streams, including ticket and Membership sales.

Essential Duties:
  • Assist in developing and executing a data-driven annual marketing calendar, managing budgets to roadmap paid advertising campaigns via digital, television, radio, billboards and print.
  • Use data and cross-department collaboration to segment audiences for effective message development and delivery.
  • Track marketing and communications data to aid in strategic campaign development.
  • Work with Graphic Designer to develop copy and creative for printed, digital and electronic communications, aligning with Freedom Center voice and brand standards.
  • Write and distribute monthly communications to Members.
  • Coordinate deliverables with advertisers, meeting deadlines with brand-aligned, proofed copy and design.
  • Assist in copy review for all materials across the organization, aligning with Freedom Center voice and brand standards.
  • Leverage industry and professional contacts to develop partnerships with key media outlets, cultural organizations and tourist, travel and hospitality organizations.
  • Assist in developing and executing annual communications calendar to effectively tell the Freedom Center’s story and mission, coordinating paid advertising as appropriate and working with internal teams to identify all strategic goals and opportunities.
  • Develop and prepare key messaging and presentation materials for leadership team.
  • Design and execute social media strategy to coordinate with overall organizational strategic goals and communications campaigns.
  • Field and triage media and community requests, working with leadership and appropriate departments on next steps as necessary.
  • Capture stories and images to tell the Freedom Center’s story through social media.
  • Assist in drafting press releases, media advisories and media pitches and strategically distributing to contacts.
  • Update and strategically segment media contacts for targeted pitches.
  • Manage media interviews and photo and video shoots, including scheduling and coordinating logistics.
  • Conduct live and taped media interviews in-person or via phone or virtual platform.
  • Coordinate image and video requests with leadership and Graphic Designer.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to capitalize on media and marketing opportunities and to effectively meet organizational goals.


Requirements (Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification):
  • 2-5 years’ experience in marketing, communications or PR
  • 4-year degree from accredited college or university; degrees in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, History preferred
  • Excellent storyteller with a focus on pinpointing and delivering key messages
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Experience working with advertisers and producing advertising copy; digital marketing experience preferred
  • Proficient in all social media platforms, particularly Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Effective collaborator with a commitment to institutional success by working across departments to achieve goals
  • High sense of urgency and adept at working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Nonprofit or museum experience a plus
