  • The Jewish Federation of Cincinnati (“JFC”) is hiring a Senior Accountant for Shared Business Services (SBS), a department of and community program provided by JFC. SBS provides professional finance, accounting, risk & insurance, and human resource services for the Jewish Federation and over twenty Greater Cincinnati non-profit client agencies and is a critical, valued business partner of those organizations.

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Senior Accountant has the potential for both leadership and support roles in SBS’ client service delivery model. For small to mid-size client accounts, the Senior Accountant would have the potential to operate in a lead client service capacity, overseeing all aspects of SBS’ services to that client. For other clients, the Senior Accountant would work as part of a client service delivery team, performing assigned accounting functions. In all instances, the Senior Accountant is empowered to identify and recommend improvements for the optimization of key accounting processes that affect client agencies served.
    Building strong relationships with clients and serving as a business partner to them is critical for success in this role.
    The Senior Accountant functionally reports to an SBS Accounting & Finance Manager. In a client service capacity, the Senior Accountant works in collaboration and partnership with SBS leadership as well as client management. We are open to both part time and full time interest.
    Primary Duties:
    • Understand each assigned Client’s business
    • Produce financial statements and variance analyses monthly, potentially presenting relevant documents to client leadership, department heads, and/or boards when operating in a client lead role
    • Budgets and forecasts, monitoring performance vs budget and issuing variance reports as applicable
    • Produce monthly cash flow forecasts to facilitate the management of cash requirements and the sufficiency of cash on hand
    • Compile monthly statistics to communicate areas of note, both positive and negative, for management
    • Perform the monthly general ledger close, ensuring that all required entries, both standard and periodic, are recorded to ensure the integrity of the financial statements
    • Ensure the efficiency and accuracy of receivables and revenues (earned and contributed) and disbursements to maximize cash
    • Make recommendations for process improvements and changes/enhancements to internal controls, policies and procedures
    • Possess sense of urgency and strong attention to detail to ensure that all deadlines are met accurately and effectively
    • Provides input to and support of strategic planning and analysis
    • Supports development team with grant applications and reports and monitors receipts associated with third party grants
    • Interacts with other members of the SBS team to ensure high quality service delivery, particularly in the areas of payroll and accounts payable
    • Performs some transactional, day-to-day work and may serve as a back-up to the payroll and payables specialist during times of their absence

Requirements

CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required
  • 3+ years in a role providing comparable professional experience in accounting
  • Experience in monthly financial reporting
  • The ability to work efficiently with financial and business systems, software, programs and applications. Experience with Financial Edge (Blackbaud) and Quickbooks a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communications
  • CPA and/or MBA a plus
  • Non-profit accounting experience a plus
  • Experience in payroll and accounts payable a plus
  • Project management experience a plus
